Happy Good Friday!
Since its Good Friday and a long weekend for many, you may want to do some Easter themed baking. I find Pinterest a great source of inspiration but not all the recipes are good. So this weekend I wanted to share some of my baking and recent Pinterest attempts.
First of all, there are bunny butts all over Pinterest when you look up Easter. These may be some of the cutest Easter images. After seeing these I wanted to make my own and did so with cupcakes. For this I used a recipe from BBC Good Food but inspiration from all the Easter images on Pinterest. Click here to go aww.
The recipe was good but it is plain, keep the buttercream sweet to balance out the flavours.
After seeing lots of bunnies I also wanted to try a big bunny cake. I discovered a recipe last year and thought this would be the time to share it. I’ve tried it out a few times now and it works every time.
The recipe and frosting comes from here and I recommend both of these. The sponge is such a good base for any cake and the buttercream has a lovely caramel flavour. The buttercream is thick but if you want it lighter add in a quarter cup of milk at the end and mix again.
Overall my bunny cake came out OK, it’s not the best but I’m happy with it for a first attempt at carving. Please ignore the icing work. That could be a lot better.
I think I got a good rough shape of a bunny but it still needs work. Would this qualify me for the new Nailed It show?
Hoping by this time next year I will have a much improved rabbit cake to showcase. If you attempt a bunny cake too, I would love to know how you carved it or if you have any tips they would be very much appreciated.
If your after more Easter baking check back on Sunday for some Easter fudge. These worked out really well.
