Glasgow is an exciting place for food lovers this year, many great new locations have opened or are soon to be open. Check out our guide below to see what’s new in Glasgow this summer.
The Canadian coffee shop opened earlier in the month and it has been very popular so far. Like all new hot spots there was a queue on its opening morning and many queues out the door since. I have tired to go a few times now and not all were successful due to how long the queues were. More on that later. I did manage to try the Tim bits and I love them. Will Tim Hortons keep living up to their reputation? I’ll be back soon to find out.
The love of burgers is still on going and LA restaurant The Counter has come over and joined us at the Springfield Quay. The Counter offer custom made burgers by giving customers a checklist menu where they can create any burger they want with over 80 ingredient choices. Signature burgers and other meals are on offer but who doesn’t want to a work their way through 14 cheese options on their burger?
Yo! Sushi is finally back in Glasgow’s city centre. After leaving House of Fraser over a year ago they have found a new home on West George Street, the old home of Pizza Hut. The sushi conveyor belt company is also back with a new menu to help celebrate their 20 year anniversary this year. The new menu brings back some limited edition items and it opened its doors today, the 29th of June, I’ll be visiting soon.
Hotel Chocolate have expanded their venues and have opened a new store with cafe in Princes Square. The new store offers all your favourite chocolates and chocolate flavoured items but the new cafe looks to be even more indulgent. If you want something sweet to go with your tea or coffee check out their brownie gallery.
After the success of two cafes in Edinburgh Coro have decided that Glasgow needs more chocolate. They opened on the 26th of June so if your around Sauchiehall street this weekend why not pop in and try something from their range of desserts, fondue, sundaes and much more.
T2, the Australian Tea shop opened in May with a large collection of teas and tea accessories. This is the new tea heaven for tea lovers in Glasgow. The store is packed from floor to ceiling with various options to choose from. If you need a little guidance they offer in store tasting and the staff are very informative and helpful. If Glasgow’s summer decides to come back their Iced Tea options will be very popular.
The market at the SWG3 will take place at the end of each month taking place over three days. It will be considered a lifestyle market as people wont just attend to visit a few stalls. There will be craft beers, cocktails, shopping, music and more. A day out with the family or friends, everyone will be welcome. The first market will be dedicated to great quality craftsmanship and each month is seemingly going to have its own theme. A weekend event that you wont want to miss.
Entry will be free and the first market will take place from the 30th June to 2nd July. For more details check out their Facebook page .
The summer months are usually designated to beer festivals which have become very popular over the last five or so years. However at times we want and need something different. So make way for a Tequila festival which is to take place on September 16th at a yet to be revealed location. The evening will be in full swing with mariachi bands, piñatas and Mexican food, not forgetting all the tequila. Each ticket to the event will also include a free shot and tequila bible to help you decide what you want to try. I’ll be looking forward to some Mexico fun in Glasgow soon, how about you?
If Tequila is a bit strong for you how about a prosecco festival? On the 27th August at another yet to be named location The Prosecco Party will take place. This will be a night filled with up to 20 different kinds of prosecco, a DJ to dance the night away and street food for when you need a break from all that fizz.
The Ardnamurchan opened last month and the New Scottish Restaurant & Bar has had a lot of great reviews so far. Each menu proudly displays the great food that Scotland has to offer and that includes the drink menus. If you love whisky their drinks menu is very diverse offering drams from under £4 to over £21. They do also have a large selection of other spirits and soft drinks, teas and coffees. I can’t wait to try it but from looking at the menu I need much more time to decide what I want to try.
There are many more great things coming to Glasgow this Summer. Keep checking back for more details.
